Junior Marine Electronics Service Engineer
Location: Houston, TexasWhat you will do:
· Research, design, develop, or test electronic components and systems utilizing knowledge of mathematics, telecommunications principles, computers and Electronics (sub-assembly level).
· Utilize knowledge of specialty analytical tools such as Spectrum Analyzer, multimeters, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, wattmeter, and knowledge in programming languages such as SQL, C#, Java and Software AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
· Part of the engineering team taking care of the installation, commissioning and maintenance of Marine Navigation and Communication equipment and security systems on board vessels.
· Accompany Radio Supervisors on board ships to learn specific techniques and methods concerning Radio Inspections (GMDSS Survey).
· Utilizing professional tools to perform General Inspections on board ships, according to guidelines and instructions of Senior Engineers.
· Report any deficiencies found back to Supervising Engineer.
· Rectify any deficiencies found if authorized by Supervising Engineer (i.e. ability to solve practical problems in engineering).
· Perform Installation of Marine Electronics equipment on board ships, as per installation plan approved by Senior Engineers.
· Work with Senior Engineers to perform configuration of VDR (Voyage Data Recorder) software utilizing programming languages (mostly SQL, C#, Java) to enable visualization of data for the authorities.
· Responsible for carrying out the Radio & VDR surveys.
· Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software or equipment to perform electronics engineering tasks.
· Utilize Computer Aided Design software, such as AutoDesk AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUP, to develop block, interconnection and connection diagrams.
· Conduct research on failure rates of marine electronics equipment to identify and to promote reduction in required corrective maintenance, as directed by Senior Engineer.
· Conduct research on most common points of failure of marine electronics equipment to create/update preventive maintenance plans and suggest new components less likely to fail, as directed by Senior Engineer.
· Recommend repair or design modifications of electronics components or systems, based on factors such as environment, service, cost, or system capabilities.
· Preparing technical reports of inspections performed according to specific internal techniques, processes and procedures.
· Utilize the following tools and technologies: multimeter, NMEA tester, and marine software tools.
· Position requires domestic and foreign travel up to 75% as needed and customary for the occupation.
Position Requirements:
· The position requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field.
· The qualified candidate must have at least 1 year (12 months) of experience in a marine electronics service engineer position or closely related occupation.
· The qualified candidate must also have at least 1 year (12 months) of experience with all of the following: (a) installation, commissioning and maintenance of marine navigation and communication equipment and security systems on vessels; (b) diagnosing malfunctioning systems and electronics components using test equipment and software to locate the root cause and correct the problem; (c) carrying out Radio & VDR surveys; (e) preparing technical reports of inspections performed according to specific internal techniques, processes and procedures; and (f) utilizing the following tools and technologies: multimeter, NMEA tester, and marine software tools.
